Under floor heating (UFH) is the way forward, producing a comfortable heat and economical running costs. UFH circulates water at a temperature of around 50 degrees centigrade unlike that of radiators which could reach a temperature of 80 degrees centigrade therefore the running costs are considerably much lower. UFH together with a solar system and a thermal store is the best type of system we can install.
UFH installations have a pipe usually laid into the screed of the floor. The pipe forms a complete loop and is connected to a manifold. This manifold connects to a pump to circulate the water and a blending valve to reduce the temperature of that water. The floor is heated by the transfer of heat from the pipe to the screed and then into the room.
The finished floor screed can then be covered with underlay and carpet, a laminated wood floor or tiled with ceramic, marble, or stone.
Ask your installer for further information regarding the laying of underlay.
The rooms on the first floor of your house are generally of the suspended type with joists and floorboards to install UFH the cavity between the floor boards and the ceiling is filled with insulation and a metallic plate is placed between the joists at 400mm centres this acts along with the ufh pipe as the heat emitter for the room
As described previous the pipe work starts and finishes at a manifold which has a pump and blending valve, left is a typical set up for a twelve port manifold. To control each circuit a thermostatic head is placed on the port valve to open and close each circuit when in demand by a programmable thermostat placed in each room or zone required to be temperature controlled.
